It is important to continue to check your breasts after surgery
Screening mammograms are not usually necessary after a mastectomy and breast reconstruction. However, breast self-exam, clinical breast examination, and screening mammography continue to be important for the uninvolved breast. Also, if there is a clinical concern about the reconstructed breast ultrasound and diagnostic mammography may be used to help clarify the situation.
